Criteria for au pair stays

AU PAIR STAYS

  By means of the defined classification, each member of the Agency undertakes to observe the criteria defined below:

5-1 GENERAL Conditions

  The organisation undertakes:

  • to select its partner organisations abroad for the choice of host families and supervision of young people .
  • that it has permanent office in France with a local officer abroad.
  • to give prior information including a detailed description of the conditions for the stay, work and insurance.
  • to send before departure an agreement signed by the two parties including a description of the host family, the working time, the conditions of accommodation and allowance.

5-2 For a stay in the united states

  General organisation:

  • The organisation, which must comply with the criteria defined by the "USDS", undertakes that:
    • the American partner organisation is approved by the "USDS" for au pair stays and to deliver the "IAP 66" form necessary to obtain the "J-1" visa
    • the duration of the stay is 12 months with the possibility of staying a 13th month to travel
    • the minimum remuneration imposed by the "USDS" is applied.
  • Selection and preparation of candidates: Considering that the age of candidates must be between 18 and 26 years, and that the minimum required level of education will be the bac (matriculation), the organisation undertakes, in particular, the following:
    • that the candidate has had a prior individual interview
    • that the person in charge of the interview has a perfect knowledge of English and follows an interview schedule
    • that the interview includes an assessment of the level of English
    • that the interviewing officers are trained and informed for this purpose
    • that the references provided by the candidates are systematically checked by the organisation.
  • The organisation undertakes that the candidate shall receive the following:
    • the address of the host family and of the American correspondent before departure
    • an information file before departure that includes the file of the host family, the "IAP 66" form and the information to obtain the visa
    • the 32 hours of " child safety and child development training" that will be provided upon arrival.
  • Other services:
      The organisation undertakes that insurance shall be supplied within the programme and that it includes medical care and civil liability, and that the young au pair shall be informed of the cover that has been taken out.

5-3 FOR A STAY IN EUROPE OR IN ANOTHER COUNTRY  

  • General organisation:
      The organisation undertakes that the partner organisation has a permanent office abroad and that it has been approved, where relevant, by the official authorities of its country.
  • Selection and preparation of candidates:
      The organisation undertakes that the candidate will have an individual interview.
  • The organisation undertakes that the candidature file shall include, in particular, the following:
    • a letter of interest
    • checked letters of reference in relation to care of children
    • letters of recommendation in relation to the personality of the candidate
    • a medical certificate
    • a civil liability insurance certificate.
  • The organisation undertakes to inform the candidate of the appropriate insurance conditions in each country and shall offer insurance.
  • The organisation undertakes that the candidate shall receive the following upon departure:
    • the address of the host family and of the correspondent abroad
    • a complete information file which shall include:
    • the file of the host family
    • a precise description of the working conditions, in French
    • for stays in member countries of the European Union, the social cover and information on form E 111 or E 121
    • for stays in other countries, the details of the insurance conditions subscribed by the participant, where the latter takes out insurance.

5-4 ALL COUNTRIES: HOST FAMILIES AND SUPERVISION DURING THE STAY  

Selection of the host family:

  • The organisation undertakes that there has been a prior interview with the host families:
    • in the home for the United States
    • at the office of the local officer or by telephone for other countries
    • in the event of a new host family, the same procedures set out above must be observed
  • Further, the organisation undertakes that the host families shall complete a file.
  • Description:
      The organisation undertakes to supply the complete composition and description of the family and of the accommodation.
  • Supervision during the stay:
      The organisation undertakes that:
      • each participant shall be supervised by a local representative and this representative shall have regular contact with the participant
      • the candidate shall receive an emergency number where he is located, that is usable and operational 24 hours per day.
