Education charter

After ten years ,the UNSE wished to define more precisely the objectives of long- term stays .These objectives go beyond the criterias of operation and organisation of the stays which are developed in the « approved » agreement. The educational charter is the result of a concrete and positive experiment ; it is also the testimony and the assertion of the educational value of long- term stays abroad.

UNSE (Union Nationale des séjours longue durée à l'étranger) is a consortium of organizations offering long term programs to youngsters . The degree of quality of these programs is based on the duration. In order to define the values that bond these organizations UNSE has set up an educational charter UNSE final goal : help youngsters to better understand the world.

UNSE players :
The educational and learning value of a long term program is based on a group of  players : the participants, the families, the teachers, the organizers. They all have to commit themselves and be ready to live this experience.

For the long term programs, based on a total immersion in a family and school integration, the UNSE organisers have to :

  • make the participant aware of the cultural differences as well as notions of tolerance and mutual respect
  • Develop the youngsters' personality by acquiring a greater autonomy and self confidence
  • Develop his curiosity towards the general problems in the world
  • Give a real knowledge of the country and its values
  • Give the tools for a successful integration
  • Check on the learning activities of its members by associating the other players
  • Make the partners aware of these values : ministries, parents, organisers
UNSE commitments : to ensure the success of the program, UNSE members commit themselves to :
  • evaluate, select and prepare the candidates for the departure
  • select the host families, prepare them for the specific requirement for the long term program
  • place only one student of each nationality per family
  • offer a session to get them ready  for the trip
  • set up a direct and regular contact with the youngsters
  • be alert by taking into account the needs of the youngsters and their families
  • keep close contact with the candidates and the host families thanks to a correspondants'network
  • help the youngsters with the administrative steps

to understand the world is to live it.
